Compassion Ministry

Ministry Overview:

Compassion Ministry at Harvest is built on our overall purpose of glorifying God through the fulfillment of the great commission in the spirit of the great commandment. We desire to reach out to people in need in our Harvest church body, our local Markham community, York Region and the Greater Toronto area and beyond.

In reaching those outside our church body we recognize that “if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away, behold, the new has come.” (2 CORINTHIANS 5:17) As we serve those who have great needs we know that the starting point for their real life transformation begins with salvation.

We are also seeking to live out the four pillars of HBCYR in our Compassion Ministries by:

Proclaiming the authority of God’s word without apology.

     - God’s word is truth and that all of life hinges on it. Proclaiming what God’s word says as we share in the lives of all who need God’s truth.

Lifting high the name of Jesus through worship.

     - As we glorify God by serving people in Jesus name including the disenfranchised and

marginalized your heart rejoices and overflows in hymns, songs, and spiritual songs

whether audibly or in one’s heart, you are humbled by the privilege of serving Him.

Believing firmly in the power of prayer.

     - You have to believe firmly in the power of prayer as you pray for and with those who are in need, seeking God to lead and guide as we share the love of Christ.

Sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with boldness.

     - The question/thought will eventually arises ... Why do you help, why do you care? How

come you are different? We are able to give the reason for the hope that we have and share the Good News. That we too were once without hope, but have been rescued from the dominion of darkness into the fellowship of His Son Jesus Christ.

Mission:

To proclaim in word and deed the Gospel of Jesus Christ to those who are in need help and to whom God calls us.

Vision:

To involve people in our church in compassion ministry opportunities that God has called us to and prepared us for. (EPHESIANS 2:10)

Values:

Witness We are bold witnesses of our Lord Jesus Christ as we reach out in word and deed. (ACTS 1:8)

Service We willingly choose to serve sacrificially, in keeping with the command and heart of God. We intentionally look for the interest of others to serve them at their point of need. (PHILIPPIANS 2:4)

 - Dependence We knowingly serve, not counting on our wisdom or strength but in full

dependence on God. We know it is only in and through Jesus Christ that people will receive what they truly and desperately need. Prayer is our foundation and indicator of our full trust in Him.

(JEREMIAH 33:3)

Example We look to Jesus Christ as our example in our service to others. (MARK 10:45

Teachable We serve with a teachable and humble spirit, knowing we desperately need God’s

help and that with Him all things are possible. (LUKE 1:37)
